The goal is to equip you to provide initial support to a colleague experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. You'll learn to offer non-judgmental assistance until professional help is available.
It's the help offered to someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis. It's similar to physical first aid but focuses on providing initial, non-clinical emotional support.
It helps reduce the stigma around mental health and creates a supportive environment. Having trained first aiders ensures colleagues can get the help they need early, improving well-being and morale.
You'll learn a 5-step action plan: assess the risk, listen non-judgmentally, give reassurance and information, encourage professional help, and encourage other support.
As a first aider, your role is to provide immediate support, not to diagnose or treat. The training emphasizes respecting confidentiality and connecting the person to professional help and resources.
